Prof Spector's research in genetics generates high interest in the media with an average of 3-4 press releases and 20 articles a year in the major national and international newspapers.
His media incursions serve three main purposes:
- It adds to public awareness of the importance of genetic factors and research into common diseases.
- It helps the Unit to recruit more twins from around the UK for current and future studies.
- It raises the profile of the Twin Research Unit and stimulates other important and vital collaborative research.
The twin work has been featured on numerous radio, TV programs, and documentaries such as between others GMTV breakfast, BBC News breakfast, City hospital (BBC), the Radio 4 Today program, Radio 4 case-notes and Radio 4's 'Its my story'. Other recent appearances include Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Margaret Throsby show, and the Today Show at the NBC channel, America.
